I sometimes wonder just how I came to be writing this study and subsequently this blog – or writing anything for publication. I rarely write anything except business documents, never journal and am terrible at writing personal letters – And yet here I am, writing this study.
It all started over 20 years ago. I was wresting with the concept of the will of God trying to figure out what scriptures such as Jer 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declared the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." had to do with my life. I was commuting 1hr 15 min between Fillmore and Rochester daily and had lots of thinking time. One day in the midst of a long boring stretch - the title for a book and all the chapters just popped into my head. Being the conscientious driver that I am I fished around for my notebook and wrote them down as I was driving. Did I mention it was prom time? I was positive at the time the Holy Spirit placed this idea in my heart because there is no way I would ever think of writing anything on my own volition. When I mentioned the idea of writing a book to my husband, Alan, a practical man, he suggested I start with writing a series of magazine articles, after all, a book is a huge undertaking for some one who gets writers block after the first sentence. Life got complicated by normal life stuff and I didn't follow up. Once in a while I'd think about it, but never seriously. Then Alan was preaching about the call of God on our lives and I was 'convicted' because I never wrote the book. So this isn't writing a book but maybe it will lead there. I tested the basics of this study with a group of women from Brewerton United Methodist Church and have included many of their insights; and, where our discussion of the topic faltered, and it did, I rethought the direction and made what I hope are appropriate corrections. I do not claim to be an expert; I do not have all the answer. My hope is this will provide grist for the mill and a catalyst for your discussions. There is no particular order to the topics; they are arranged to fit with the idea of a prom, but they are not chronological in a Christian’s walk.

I have been her dance partner for 25 years. God has been a key part of our lives and marriage. When she taught this study I was banned from the house so as not to interrupt the women in the group. I highly recommend this as a study for women trying to figure it out together. Comments are closed.
