Or so thinks Riley the Quisling, our 14 year-old, “scaredy” cat who heads for deep hiding the moment the first strange noise occurs in the morning and does not emerge until there has been an hour or two of silence. And so it sounds here is the sewing room. I venture out to the street periodically to check the progress of the noisemakers. This is the third and final day of the siege. It looks like all the rotted sheathing has been replaced, the moisture barrier is down, and the shingles are being laid. You guessed it, the roofers are causing the racket even as they are rebuilding the protection from inclement weather our home needs. I know in a few hours peace will be restored.
In Philippians 4:4-7 the apostle Paul gives us a prescription for restoring and maintaining God’s peace in our lives. “ 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” So when we are besieged by the noise of the world remember: 1. Rejoice, 2. Be gentle, 3. Cease worrying, 4. Be thankful, 5. Let God know what you need and trust in Jesus Christ. Then no matter the situation around us, God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds |
